Types of Student Visas for Australia
There are a few student visas for studying in Australia. Student Visa (Subclass 500) and Temporary Graduate Visa (Subclass 485) are the popular ones as students mostly choose these two visas.
- Student Visa (Subclass 500): It is the most common type of student visa. This visa allows a student to study in Australia for a maximum period of 5 years. The necessary conditions for the student visa are that the age of the student must be at least six years, you should have been accepted for study at a valid Australian educational institution for an educational degree or study programme and have a health insurance. Before applying for this visa, you must confirm proper welfare arrangements with the authorities for your stay in Australia.
- Temporary Graduate Visa (Subclass 485): This visa is primarily for international students recently graduated from Australia to study, work and live in Australia temporarily after you have completed your studies in Australia for which you went there. It has two streams under which you can apply for this visa – The Graduate Work Stream which lasts for 18 months and The Post-Study Work Stream which lasts for 2 to 4 years. Any student is able to get the Visa 485 once as a primary applicant. To get this visa, you must be under 50 years of age, already hold an eligible visa and a recent qualification in a registered courses.
