Hotels located in isolated areas should be avoided and hotels situated in the city centre should also be ignored as too much chaos and crowd may prove disturbing.

Facilities

Prior to making bookings, check the facilities provided by the hotel such as swimming pool, spa and such and check whether these are in concurrence to your requirements or not. If possible inspect room and bathrooms and if you’re travelling during winters make sure you have the hot water facility provided.

Prefer hotels with restaurants as it would be easy for to have your meals inside the hotel only. Check whether the hotel charges include complimentary breakfast and if it so, do not forget to confirm the timings of your breakfast as the breakfast is available only for fixed hours in the morning.

Also, choose a hotel with 24 hour check out facility as they won’t charge you for an extra day in case of any delay.

Rates

Budget is an integral part of any travel. Before booking a room, do compare the rates with hotel having similar features so that you get an idea about the rates of the hotels. Confirm any extra charges or taxes applicable whether you’re booking online or offline so that you are not surprised by any sudden rate hike at the end of your stay. If you feel the costs are too high of the room, get them to throw few free services which may work sometime. Also, clarify the number of people allowed in the room and such other basic queries to spare yourself from any additional charges.

Some mid-range hotels in India may not accept Credit and Debit Cards, so clarify this point beforehand to avoid confusions on last moment.  Get the confirmation of the hotel in advance about how you will be doing the payment and to be more clear show them the credit card so as to know whether they accept it or not. If they don’t accept your card you will get enough time to arrange for the cash or choose a hotel which is comfortable with your mode of payment.

Safety

While you are in a foreign country, undoubtedly safety comes first.  A hotel with good repute should be chosen to ensure that you are in safe environment. For safety purposes only hotel situated in isolated areas should be avoided and hotel with shady reputation is a big NO.

Also, it is good precaution to keep your valuables and luggage in locks for further security while you keep it in your room.

Always check the past record of the hotel before making your bookings. Now days you even get ratings of the hotels online based on the feedback of previous guests, go through those feed backs to know more about the hotel and their pros and cons if any.
