If you are still finding your plans are coming in over budget, It's time to cut the list.
Of course, cutting names off a guest list is not as easy as it sounds, but you will find the following set of tips useful in guiding you through that process.
The Big List
The first thing to do is to make the big list. This is the master list where you should include everyone that you are thinking about inviting.
Cut the “Friend of a Friend” from Your List
Learn the difference between actual friends and friends of your friends. The people you never meet without the presence of your mutual friends are the ones we are talking about here and there’s no point in inviting them.
The Needy Friend or Relative
We all have a few people in our respective lives who only call or visit when they need something and that’s usually money or some other significant form of help. Make them useful by cutting them out of the wedding guest list and saving some money at their expense for a change!
Exes or that “Close” Friend
An ex or friend with whom either of you has had a physical relationship at any point in your lives are best left out of your guest list and for good reason. It’s best not to complicate things on your wedding day.
The Co-Workers You Don’t Really Like or Know (Except Your Boss!)
Invite only the co-workers whom you really like outside of work and the ones you simply cannot exclude like your boss/manager for example.
If You Are Not Sure, Cut Him/her Out
In most cases, if you are in confusion regarding whether or not you should invite a person, your relationship with that person isn’t really a close one. Cut such names from the list.
The Public Nuisance
If anyone on your guest list is infamous for getting drunk and causing a nuisance or for any other prominent bad manners, it’s best not to invite him/her at all. Such people cannot be avoided at all times, but when possible, do not hesitate to do so.
Once you have applied these rules to your wedding master list, it should start to seem a lot lighter. Always remember that the wedding is about the two of you and not the people on the guest list. So, do what you need to and make sure that your wedding is beautiful, memorable, and affordable.
