1. The resume should only be one-page long:
Who said that a resume should be only one page long? There is no such book called ‘The Rule Book of Making a Resume’ that you must believe it. Understand that if you have a lot of things that will give you the extra bonus at getting the job, your resume can be as long as you want. Of course, this in no way means that you keep holding on to one thing and dragging it to an extent your resume becomes dull and unbearable. Remember that your resume is your own reflection to the employer. Add things that will be valuable in getting you the job and not the things that are irrelevant. For instance, if you are applying for a finance executive job, I don’t see the need for you to mention how you won a salad making a contest in the third grade. Write about skills that will add to your resume and not the ones that will be useless.
2. Don't include social media information:
Social media is the best way to judge if the person applying for the job is the correct one or not. The employers today are definitely going to visit your social media pages such as Facebook and LinkedIn. There is a need for you to provide correct links to the profiles so that the employers can easily find it. Make sure that the content you put out on social media is professional and be consistent in posting. This will show the employer if you should be hired or not.
3. White lies are okay:
No lies are okay. The thing with lies is that you can get caught, if not now then sometime soon. If you lie on your resume, you are sure to get caught if not in the interview then maybe after getting the job. And in that case, you will suffer from a worse reputation. So, always be truthful on the resume. Lying about your skills or work experience or anything at all will get you in trouble.
4. A good résumé will get you a job:
That is not true at all. A good resume will get you an interview, not the job. You will get the job on the basis of your skills and abilities. Resume plays only a 10% role in getting you a job while you play 90%.
