How long should I run my Pump?
The daily running time of your pump will depend on a number of factors including the size of your pool, how much debris gets into your pool, the level of use, exposure to the sun and whether you have a pool cover. However, as a general rule you can expect that you’d need to run your pump for 7-8 hours during the summer months. This will be less during winter. Remember not to run your pump for longer than necessary – it’s just a waste of electricity.
What happens if I don’t run my Pump?
We get asked this one a lot and it’s especially tempting to let your pump take a break during the cooler months. However, running your pump ensures that the water is safe and healthy, and you need to ensure that all of the water is turned over at least once per day. Without the water circulating, you’ll end up with dirty, cloudy water which will require extra chemicals and maintenance. Insufficient pumping can also result in algae which can be time consuming to treat.
How do I maintain my Pool Pump?
One of the most basic pool pump maintenance items on your list should be checking the pump basket regularly. Leaves and debris can build up very quickly and impact on the performance of the whole system, resulting in decreased water flow. Aim to clear it once a week. Other than that, just ensure that your pump isn’t covered and there is plenty of air circulating around it.
Why is my pump noisy/sucking in air/not pulling water through?
If you’re having issues with your pool pump, there could be a number of causes. For examples, a noisy pump could be due to something as simple as pump vibrating against the surface it’s resting on or something more serious such as cavitation. If you’re experiencing problems, it’s best to call on your local pool technician to take a closer look!
