The 15th Rathore ruler, Rao Jodha founded the Jodhpur city and this iconic marvel. The massive fortress was laid on Malani Igneous Suite Contract rocky hill also known as Bhaurcheeria which means the mountains of birds. Cheeria Nathji, a hermit and the lord of birds was a dweller of Bhaurcheeria. To construct the fort, he was asked to leave to the hill, this made him filled with aggression and cursed the fort as it will remain drought to water scarcity. To satisfy the hermit, Rao Jodha constructed a temple to him for meditation. Since after that, the fort suffers a drought for every 3 to 4 years.

Man buried under the foundation of the fort – Rao Jodha had taken a flattering measure to bury a man under the foundation of this fortress. For this act, Raja Ram Meghwal sacrificed his life under the foundation.

Adventures at Mehrangarh Fort – the fortress offers an adventurous activity known as flying fox which gives a fascinating view of the entire city.

7 gigantic gates of the fort – originally there were only 5 gates in the premises, but to the expansion of Jodhpur kingdom, two more gates were added. Fateh Gate, Gopal Gate, Toati Gate, Bhairon Gate, Dedh Kamagra Gate, Marti Gate, Loha Gate are the seven gates of the fort. The main entrance of the fort is Jay Pol which means the victory over Jaipur and Bikaner armies.

Meaning of the name – in the Rathore clan Sun is the superior God and in the respect of Sun God, they named the fort as Mehrangarh. Meir stands for Sun and Garh means Fort.

Built over 500 years ago – the construction of fortress was initiated in the 15th century by Rao Jodha. Many palaces and structures were added to the monuments by the next generations. The fort was constructed across 500 years ago.

Fort museum – Mehrangarh Fort Museum displays the collection of furniture, palanquins, howdahs, royal cradles, musical instruments, costumes, etc.

The oldest volcanic rock – previously there was a Desert Park also known as Rao Jodha Desert Park which restores vegetation of barren and desert land. The park is surrounded by many volcanic rocks and stone formation that will appear which were formed nearly 600 million back.
