“The two new features in the app are the features that users need most,” says Dan Albertson, senior product manager for Linksys Software. "Many Velop users need to configure Velop in a bridgeable mode, which allows them to connect to voice or IPTV services through routers or gateways provided by existing network providers, while also enjoying the large wireless reach of Velop's home.”
Area Coverage and Superior Performance
Parental control scheduling has always been a feature in Linksys' browser-based setup interface i.e. Linksys extender.linksys.com, but users tell us that they need to flexibly control their children's access to the Internet by adding this feature to the Linksys mobile app.
Velop Bridge mode
Consumers using hardware provided by Internet Service Providers (ISPs) (called gateway user equipment (CPE) devices or modems + wireless routers) cannot remove or replace hardware because this hardware supports other services such as voice or IPTV. By configuring “Velop” in a bridged mode and connecting to a gateway, wireless devices connected to the ISP gateway network and wireless devices connected to the Velop mesh wireless network can interoperate and eliminate problems such as bidirectional NAT.
For example, if there is a printer in the ISP gateway network and a computer is connected to the Velop network, the computer can access the printer and print. To enable the bridge mode you don’t have to go for Linksys extender setup, the user simply enters the Linksys application and changes the connection mode to bridge mode.
Cool isn’t it?
When the bridging mode is enabled, other features also continue to remain:
Dynamic three-band selection. Linksys offers the only truly flexible mesh network solution that does not lag due to the use of a single static band. “The Velop is modified as to progressively choose any of the three accessible bandwidths (one of the 2.4 GHz or two 5 GHz groups) so as to give the best association to the customer. This feature ensures that users can enjoy 100% broadband speed in every corner of the network, and get better overall performance.
Other Compelling Benefits:
A guest network
The guest network will work at all nodes to provide a larger range and better performance for the guest network in the home.
Automatic firmware update
Automatic firmware updates provide users with automatic updates of new firmware and Linksys extender login. After the new firmware is released, users do not have to consider manually updating the router to ensure that the vulnerability is fixed in time and the user is able to use the new features.
Linksys application-initiated router joins parental control scheduler
Parental Control Scheduling Programs can now be used in Linksys applications to control Linksys Velop, Max-Stream, WRT and EA-Series routers. Parental control scheduling allows parents to set up and manage a child's device to access the Internet on a certain day of the week or on an hourly basis. Adding this feature to Linksys applications gives parents the flexibility to manage them easily on mobile devices.
Now, just update the Velop firmware and the linksys.com application to use the bridge mode. That is, to use the parental control scheduling feature, you just need to update the app.
Automatic firmware updates will be available to Velop and all router users launched by Linksys applications. If the user chooses to disable the automatic firmware update feature, you can manually download and install the new firmware.
