First Date Fails 6 Foods to Avoid On A First Date

Rating & reviews (0 reviews)
You’ve picked out a fresh outfit, paid a visit to your barber, and brainstormed a list of conversation starters. And with that, you’re all set for your all-important first date. But all your preparation could be undone in an instant if you select the wrong thing on the menu.
We’ve asked a qualified dentist from Beyond Dental Solihull to give us their top foods to avoid on a first date.

Garlic

Garlic probably makes every list of foods to avoid on or before a first date. The impact of a garlic-heavy dish can still be smelt the morning after and once you’ve overdone the garlic, it can be pretty hard to get rid of!
Unfortunately, many tasty dishes are loaded with garlic so do your research beforehand especially if you’re heading to an Italian or curry house.

Tinned Tuna

Sticking with foods that will leave a bad taste in your mouth (quite literally), it’ll come as no surprise to see tuna fish make the list of foods to avoid on a first date.
If you’re at a nice seafood restaurant for your first date, you can probably get away with ordering a fresh tuna steak. The problems arise when tinned tuna chunks are on the menu. If you find yourself out for lunch on your first date, we highly recommend steering clear of the tuna melts and choosing another topic for your jacket potato.

Spaghetti

Spaghetti won’t leave you looking for some emergency chewing gum, but there is a good chance it will leave you looking for a new date! Especially if you’re someone who likes to slurp down their spaghetti.

Some might tell you to approach spaghetti dishes with a fork and a spoon, while any proud Italian would tell you to tuck in armed with a fork only. Our advice, do neither and avoid anything with spaghetti.

BBQ Ribs

They can be one of the tastiest options on the menu. But bear in mind that nobody ever looked good eating a plate of baby back ribs. Oozing with thick, sticky BBQ sauce, it’s one of those dishes that just has to be devoured with your fingers (we’re not sure why) but doing so will lead to sauce covering the tablecloth, your fingers, your face, and even worse, your brand new clothes!

Spicy curriesIf you find yourself at an Indian on your first date, you might be tempted to impress your date by showing that you can handle a dish loaded with spice. A decision you will more than likely regret.

There’s a good chance that a hot curry, like a Phaal or Vindaloo, will leave you looking redder than a tomato and dripping in sweat. Neither of which is likely to lead to a second date. If you do find yourself at a curry house on date night, opt for milder dishes like a korma or butter chicken and thank yourself later.

Coffee

Come the end of your date, it can be tempting to finish the meal with a tasty Irish coffee. But if you’re looking to carry on the evening in some late-night bars, that might be a decision you regret.

Even before your date, coffee should be avoided at all costs. While it can be tempting to chug down a coffee to perk you up in time for your big night, rocking up with a curious case of coffee breath isn’t going to impress anyone.
