Gurpreet’s view on the exam and its comparison with CAT
On the nature of exam, Gurpreet says that NMAT is not exhaustive. It is just like any other entrance exam. According to him no negative marking and 2 hours duration of the exam makes it much more lucrative among aspirants.
In comparison with the prestigious CAT (Common Admission Test), Gurpreet says that NMAT tests your time management skills along with analytical skills. While CAT has more focus on analytical skill assessment.
Gurpreet highlights that the level of difficulty of NMAT is on the lower side as compared to CAT. CAT with negative marking and high difficulty level can be tougher for students. NMAT comes as a good fall back option for CAT aspirants.
Views on the preparation of multiple management entrance exams
On preparation of NMAT along with other management entrance exam Gurpreet says that it is manageable. He says since all of them have a basic idea of checking the candidate’s analytical abilities the syllabus is almost the same.
During preparations, he says that the focus shall be on maximizing question-solving speed and accuracy. Since each section in NMAT has a specified time limit one needs to be quick to complete the paper on time. On accuracy front, though NMAT is not much demanding, however, one must ensure to get an accuracy rate of 80% or more.
On NMAT Preparation and Resources
Gurpreet says that he didn’t prepare specifically for NMAT. He says that he started preparing for CAT during the final year of his graduation. The preparation for CAT made him acquaint in regards to the knowledge set required for NMAT.
He says for NMAT he worked on the question-solving speed specifically. For speed building, Gurpreet says he solved a good number of full-length mocks. It is important to assess the mistakes made in the mocks and note them he adds.
In terms of resources for the NMAT exam preparations, he says he believed in getting a single quality source instead of multiple average sources. Gurpreet says that he studied form TIME’s material for CAT preparation. The material for CAT preparation is enough for most of the management entrance exam including NMAT he adds. For test practice, he joined Hitbullseye’s test series.
Exam Day Strategy and Personal Interview (PI)
On exam day strategy Gurpreet says that he was focused and determined to score well and qualify the exam. He says that the absence of negative marking boosted his confidence in the exam. One should start with his strong area and shouldn’t waste time on questions that are unfamiliar. Time is the key in NMAT exam he says.
On Personal Interview (PI) he says that knowing your CV thoroughly is very important. Getting knowledge of current affairs is an added benefit. From working professional questions on work profile and experience are also asked. Being a fresher I was asked general questions about education, hobbies, and current affairs he says.
Importance of mocks
He says that mocks are like diamonds for aspirants preparing for the NMAT exam. I practiced a lot of mocks that helped me analyzed my mistakes and also made me aware of my strong and weak areas says Gurpreet. Practice two to three mocks on weekly basis to get habitual to the exam process and build speed and accuracy. Your mistake is your best teacher he says.
Message for Future Aspirants
For future aspirants, Gurpreet advises them to give a full focus on practices and speed building. Stress should be not let to take over you during the preparations phase. Don’t get de-motivated by low scores in mocks or overwhelmed by high score.
