Weddings are not complete without bouquets. And, while the history of wedding bouquets is replete with use of fresh flowers only, the modern bride is always hunting for newer and more versatile alternatives to flower bouquets. The list is topped by button bouquets - they come in unique and individual designs are more economical and eco-friendly. The best part about these bouquets is that you can make them yourself at home, by following a few simple steps. What makes them even more special is that you can give them a personalized touch of your own.

Here’s for all brides to be, a brief guide on how to create a button bouquet on your own:
Button Bouquet
Step I

To begin with you’ll need to collect all the raw material for the bouquet. This includes an assortment of buttons, ribbons and colored tapes. You can use button lying at home, ask your friends and family to lend you some, and buy some from the market as well. Also get some needle, threads, paper, and some cloth.

If you wish to add personalized accents, choose from brooches, pins, beads, pearls, colored thread, and other accents that you’d like to use for decorating the button bouquet.

Step II

Once you have the all the material with you, it’s time to begin designing the bouquet buds. For the bud, arrange a few buttons of decreasing size and thread them in a metal wire long enough to be folded several times on the top. The best method is to stack the button of the largest size at the base and the smallest at the top.

A wire 2 feet long would be sufficient for the buds.

Step III

Once you have the buttons arranged, threading them securely is the next step. For this, loop the buttons with the threads. Bring the end of the wire and loop it through again. Keep repeating this till you the buttons are secured with the wire.

If you are using pearls, beads and other such accents for the buds, this is the step where you thread them with the buttons.

Step IV

Review the first bud when it is ready, and if you’re satisfied with how it looks, you can proceed with creating a bundle of these buds, in different colors and different sizes. Have different lengths of the buds, so that you can be more innovative with the designs you choose later.

Step V

Cover the stems of each bud with a layer of floral tape to further make them more robust. Apparently, many people want their wedding button bouquets to look like flower bouquets and this is the reason why they like interspersing them with artificial ferns, which are easily available in the market.

You can also create your own ferns by taking paper in several folded layers glued together. Cut it in the shapes you’d like and tape them to the metal wires just like the button buds.

Step VI

When all your buds and ferns are ready, the final step is to arrange them into a bouquet. Start by randomly arranging buds and ferns and, then go on to making it look more organized. When the bunch is ready, take a broad roll of silk or satin ribbon, and wound it around the stems generously to hold them in shape.
