If you have always dreamed of booking a Ladakh tour package but have been putting it off for one reason or another, 2016 is the year you should go! Whilst this region certainly is beautiful, there are a number of other reasons why thousands of tourists travel here each year. We have outline just 5 of our favourites in the list below to show you what you’re missing out on!
1. Festivals
Did you know that Ladakh is home to many fairs and festivals? Many of these are held in the monasteries found throughout the region. The best time to visit for festivals is during the winter – the most popular ones are held at Thiske, Chemrey, Spituk and Matho. Watch the locals perform traditional dances and sing in choirs.
2. Lakes
Whilst there are quite a few lakes that you could visit as a part of Ladakh tour packages, the one that tends to attract the most tourists is Pangong Lake, which is located at an altitude of more than 4000 metres. On its shores, you will find the quaint villages of Thikse and Shey. The panoramic views of your surroundings are often a big draw.
3. Monasteries
If you’re looking for more of a spiritual experience, you can rest assured that Ladakh will deliver! There are many monasteries and Stupas dotted around the countryside that welcome tourists. Some of the more popular include the Thikse Monastery, Hemis Monastery and Spituk Monastery; just ensure that you are respectful during your visit.
4. Rafting
If you’re a bit of a thrill seeker, the Ladakh region offers numerous adventure sports – including white water rafting! As well as getting to experience the thrill of racing down the river, you’ll be able to take in the spectacular sights (including the tall peaks in the distance). Many tours allow you to raft down the River Zanskar.
5. Trekking
Whether you’re an experienced or an amateur climber, Ladakh is the perfect destination. Some of the popular trekking locations in the area include the Markha Valley, Shayok Valley, Stok-Khangri and Lamayuru (which is in the Indus Valley). Treks range in length from 2 days to 10 days, ensuring you can choose one that meets your needs.
We hope that all of these activities and sights have shown you exactly why this is the year to book Ladakh tour packages. Whether you want to partake in one of these activities or them all, there is sure to be a tour that meets your needs – all you have to do is find it! Once you’ve arrived in India, there are also plenty of other regions and cities that are worth the visit, too.
