10 Reasons Why Your Website Is Losing Customers

Rating & reviews (0 reviews)
In today’s business world, your website is valuable real estate and acts as your store front. If you don’t have a presence on the web, people will not know you exist.  Without a website, you are losing customers and they are being scooped up by your competition.  Your website helps to educate and inform everyone about what kind of business you conduct and why people should buy products and/or services from you.  Did you know that your website may be losing customers for you? Here are 10 reasons why that could be happening:

What is your bounce rate?

The bounce rate of your website increases when people land on your website but don’t click through to other pages. You have around 15 seconds to make a good impression on people landing on your webpage2. After that time, they will leave without making a purchase and they might never return. Unfortunately, you never get a second chance to make a first impression with your webpage, so it’s important to captivate your audience the moment that they land on your site.

Is Your Content High Quality?

Consumers search for answers to their issues. If the content on your website does not offer a solution or an explanation that can assist them, they won’t stick around. You can present high quality content in so many ways including How To lists, resources, step by step tutorials on YouTube and links to content on your page. You need a strong content strategy so that you generate leads that could potentially turn into sales and you need to over deliver on content that people will want to return to read time and time again.

Is Your Website Slow to Load?

Have you ever landed on a webpage and waited for that page to load? How long did you wait? Most people are not going to sit around on a page for more than 8 seconds before they leave3 if nothing is going to load. Not only is this highly annoying and unprofessional, it is not going to get you any customers.

Do You Have Obvious Calls to Action?

High quality content attracts people and calls to action ask them to perform a specific action. You must give your customer something that is irresistible such as a free download or a free manual and ask in return for their information but make sure that the call to action is easy to find, offers something that everyone wants and is quick to fill out.

Is Your Design Outdated?

Imagine landing on one of the original webpages from when the World Wide Web was first introduced. What would it look like? If your website looks like something from the early 1990’s, then you need to update it. Your design should be captivating and appealing and should attract customers, not repel them.

Does Your Website have Poor Navigation?

Is your site well laid out?  If a visitor to your site must search around for something and they can’t find it, you can bet that they are not going to stay. If you make them work to find something to purchase, you probably are not going to make a sale. Make your site easy to navigate with a clear and easy layout.

Is Your Website Mobile Friendly?

Since over 50% of your traffic is going to come from mobile phones4, is your site ready for mobile users? If your website is not optimized for mobile traffic, you are going to miss out on your share of an estimated 6.5 billion web searches1 conducted every day. You want your site to load easily onto mobile phones and not suck data with pointless flash apps and videos. Make the content highly targeted and easy to read.

Is Your Site Loaded with Auto play Videos?

If a customer visits your website, they don’t want videos to automatically play. If your customer is on a mobile phone they will certainly not appreciate auto-play videos because they eat data up like crazy.  This certainly won’t make you very popular with visitors to your website. Make your videos ready to be played through choice not by force.

Do you Give Value?

Customers will pay any price for a product if they feel that they are getting good value. That does not mean that they are looking to save money, it means that they want to feel like they are getting something extraordinary for their money and time. If you over-deliver you are getting it right. Customers want the very best value and it’s up to you to give it to them. Make sure your product is excellent and you will get customers searching you out.

Do You Have Too Many Ads?

If you are on a free platform or an ad-based one, your content is going to be overshadowed by ads. This will take away from your overall message and may even drive customers away. Don’t turn your customers off with flashing ads that can’t be closed, make sure that ads are minimized or placed in out of the way areas and find other ways to deliver your message if you are responsible for said ads.

Whether you have one or several of these issues, you need to review and update your website. There is no reason to even have a website if it isn’t a top quality one because it is a representation of your company on the internet and you certainly don’t want to make a bad impression. People have so many options online these days, don’t give them a reason to navigate away from your website without becoming a customer.
